Details

The RIBCOR skates have been traded from Reebok to CCM! Living up to the reputation that Reebok skates have earned as being among the best out of box fit, Reebok has handed the torch over to CCM’s RIBCOR 50K skate to continue that tradition. CCM’s RIBCOR series was designed to give the player Mind Blowing Agility with the type of control that allows you to turn on a dime. They are easy to break in, offer good flexibility and of course allow for a unique type of customized fit through the use of its next generation pump, Advanced Pump® technology.

For those of you that aren't familiar with that technology, the Advanced Pump® allows you to control the amount of air that you circulate into the air bladders around the ankles, thus enhancing heel lock by eliminating negative space and giving you the option to adjust for fit in a matter of seconds between shifts. It is more efficient than its predecessor as it fills quicker and holds more air. The RIBCOR 50K has a tapered fit in the ankle and is slightly narrower in the heel and the forefoot in comparison to the Tacks and RBZ lines from CCM. You'll also find the Skate Lock feature on this skate, which allows for variability within two separate lacing zones - lower and upper.

CCM uses its RIBCOR Elite construction in the quarter. The EPP foam core reacts very well to heat molding, and will help reduce break in time. Also found in the core as part of its agility profile is a ribbed reinforcement just below the eyelets of the skate. This element had over 2 years of pro validation prior to product launch, and provides additional support and a stiffness profile that allows the skate to flex and move with you. The other two elements of the agility profile that contribute to forward and backward flexibility are the boot cut and the 13° forward lean (RBZ is 10°, while Tacks are 16°). Heel lock is achieved from a combination of a tapered fit in the ankle, the use of internal ankle foams, the Skate Lock feature and the Advanced Pump®.

The tongue is a thinner more traditional style tongue dubbed TriGuard, this is made of pro felt with lightweight EPE foams and has an external molded lace bite protector. The RIBCOR 50K has the ventilated full lightweight carbon composite outsole which helps reduce weight in a skate and provides excellent rigidity under the boot. This is where you'll find the SpeedBlade + 4.0 holder which is aptly named because of its additional 4.0mm height which provides a significantly deeper angle of attack for tighter turns. This is the same holder that was introduced on the CCM RBZ skates and also features SpeedRibs near the top of the holder, the structure of which helps increase torsional rigidity.

The nice all black tonal look of the RIBCOR 50K is complimented nicely with the corrosion-resistant SpeedBlade Black runner. In addition to just looking good, this blade also comes loaded with performance benefits. It has undergone a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) process to give it a Titanium Carbo-Nitride finish - that's a mouthful, what does it mean? It increases surface hardness which translates to holding an edge longer and reduces the likelihood that it will chip or flake. Additionally, the high quality finish provides lower friction which in turn gives you a faster glide and more speed. Agility, comfort and performance come together in these sharp looking RIBCOR 50K skates from CCM.

Product Questions

How is the size compared to the CCM RBZ? I found I had to go down a half-size on the newer CCM skates (RBZ & 6052). Wondering if it is the same for these?

Amazing bring them back !

I started out with CCM tack skates as a kid and moved to Bauer as i got older. I thought Bauer made good skates but as i got new pairs they seemed to get more poor quality. They might seem fancy looking but they do not hold up the way they use to. Coming from Bauer One.9s These skates are so much more comfortable skates i have worn. They are also very stiff to make for that great stride . This is the last year they will make the pumps but they need to bring them back. With the ability to add air during a game if the laces get loose make a game changing difference. I will not be leaving CCM anytime soon. This is a year later in the skates and still Strong as ever ! Next adding Step Steel to replace the blades .

Great skate for the money

i bought these on sale. I had not skated in 11 years. a friend works as equipment mgr with pro hockey team. He says they are great skates. he did bake them for me which made them more comfortable and conforming. I have skated 4 times on them now and no complaints.

solid update

The last pair of skates I had were 1992 Bauer Supreme 3000s. I wore them for a few seasons then after JRs/college got away from hockey.

Ok, fast fwd to 2016 I started helping out with my sons team and noted I needed to update the old skates. I got these on sale (about $500) and they have been great. It was pretty weird at first going from the old-school leather boots to these "new plastic things" as they were so much stiffer - they felt like ski boots - but now that I am accustomed to skates from this millennium I'm super pleased.
After about a dozen hours (and finally remembering how I liked my skates rockered, and shook off the dust) I was flying again.

For the record, I wore a 1992 Bauer size 10D and these I went with 9.5D and they are good to go.

I especially like the lace lock device - that's super cool.

The now-deprecated pump thing on the 50Ks does work and does lock in the heel. Regarding pump thing durability - I can't say - after maybe a hundred hours of coaching and 25 men's league games it still works and doesn't leak.

In fact, when the weirdo white LE models came out on sale a couple months ago, I picked up another pair b/c the price (<$300) was too good to pass on. You know... for my coaches bag. ;)

Only difference on those is that (I think) the tongue on the white LEs seems thicker.

Best skates ever

Went from 20K Reebok skates to those 50Ks and surprised how comfortable they are.
Used lot of top skates in the past but i Can say this skates are much bether than previous APX2 or 20Ks.
No need to back, i had the feeling as there is nothing on my feet.

Amazing skates!

I was In Bauer skates and couldn’t get rid of the fore foot pinch after baking and wear. Saw these and decided to pull the trigger. Out of the box and they’re EXACTLY what I want. After a bake these will be perfect. Amazingly comfortable.

Awesome Skates!

I would have never spent this much on a pair of skates. As I am a beginner player with limited experience. I picked up ice hockey late in life and enjoy playing in the beginner men's league at my local rink. My wife knew that I needed a new pair of skates and wanted to get me a nice Christmas gift so she purchased these skates for me knowing that I liked the fit of the CCM Ribcore. All I can say is WOW I am spoiled now and I don't think I will ever be able to skate on anything but a top of the line skate. These skates fit great out of the box and after being baked they broke in after one hard skate. My turns are tighter and these skates hold an edge better then anything I have ever used. The boots are stiff but I like how much better feel and control I have with a stiff boot. Also the lace locks allow you to adjust how tight the laces are on across the top of your foot vs around the ankle.

Pretty fantastic skate

Got these from a giveaway when they first came out, and it made a huge impact in my play. I'm 6'1 and I never even considered spending 500, 600, 700, 800, ect. amount of dollars on a pair of skates. I was rocking a pair of Bauer Vapor X200's, the entry level skates to the vapor line. Mind you, I was trying to play AAA and high school hockey with those skates, wasn't working out well. When these came in, they were far different than anything I had ever used. I was the kind of guy that would spend 300$ on the limited edition Bauer sticks, but I'd never considered changing my skates, but it made a huge difference. First thing you will notice with these skates is how tall you feel on the ice, you feel like you're on two towers, it's pretty incredible. The skates have phenomenal protection all throughout the boots and the whole quarter package has stayed stiff, with no internal breakdown. The tendon guard has stayed stiff without a wrinkle, and if you take the footbeds out every night and let them air out, they will stay like new. The turning radius was incredible on these, right out of the box on my first use, I could turn on a dime with ease, the steel stayed sharp and the boot didn't bend at all. The only places I have seen wear on them are in the obvious spots, the eyelets, lace locker and inner liner. The eyelets and lace locker have just gotten worn down by water, the lace locker becoming slightly corroded, but it's not anything terrible. The inner liner rubs off slightly, just the first layer of it, but it's probably because I use thicker skate socks and they tend to rub a bit more roughly. The skates were a fantastic pickup, and since then I have also tried the 1X skates, Jetspeeds and 1S skates, and I can say for the money, the Ribcor wins. It has a custom feeling and while the 1X's were also good, I did prefer the Ribcors for the money and incredible comfort.

Sweet Wheels!

As a loyal Bauer user, I was skeptical to try CCM but the price was right. So far, I'm impressed by the fit and quality. Even though these are cheaper than other high end skates, I honestly don't see the difference in performance. Unless they break down, I plan on buying more of these in the future.
