Details

The next saga in CCM’s RBZ skate line is here. While the skate may look familiar, the JetSpeed 280 has been redesigned from the ground up to drastically improve boot construction, fit, and performance.

CCM set out to offer an improved “close to the foot” fit with excellent heat molding properties, comprised of lightweight components. The result is CCM’s Contoured Action Form™ outer, a contoured shaped shell with improved heel lock for excellent fit and performance. The quarter package is supported internally by CCM’s Pro reinforced heat moldable SpeedCore. With a natural, contoured shape and great heat molding capabilities, SpeedCore is the perfect complement to the contoured fit of the Action Form™ quarter package. The upper package is finished with a Heavy duty microfiber liner – a comfortable, soft touch liner that is both lightweight and durable.

A two-piece, felt tongue with lace bite protection helps provide protection and comfort regardless of what the game may throw your way. Additionally, CCM’s Anatomical response footbed brings lightweight comfort and is perforated to work in junction with the boot’s ventilated outsole.

The boot sits atop an Injected Outsole that features power channels that provide excellent power transfer to the ice, and is a good balance of light weight and strength. When mounted to CCM’s SpeedBlade 4.0 holder with SpeedBlade stainless steel runner, the JetSpeed 280 skate is Fit to Fly!

New Skate for an Old Man

Picked up these 8.5EE skates Nov 2018 as NOS sale here on Hockey Monkey. Couldn't pass up the deal of $185 shipped to Hawaii (yes there's hockey here). These are replacing my 2003 Easton SBX UltraLite Pro 9.5D skates which finally had the toe cap disintegrate. When they arrived I didn't even think there was anything in the package except an empty box. These skates are fairly light. Lighter than my daughters size 6.5 Graf 7035 and my sons 8.0EE Bauer Nexxus 7000s. I really didn't know what to expect in new skates with a hard shell exterior as the Eastons were all leather and fit like slippers. Very comfy, but are definitely heavy after years of soaking up sweat.

These aren’t the top level skate and didn’t expect that level of comfort, but they’re a 7 out of 10 for me and really couldn’t expect more from any skate in this level. I probably could have gone down to an 8.0EE but the width wouldn't have been enough I don’t think. Had them heat molded and they fit very well and no complaints. I’ll spend anywhere from 3 to 4 hours a day, 3 days a week in them coaching the youth program and having my feet pinched for that long would be too much. I tried the newer Jetspeed FT350s on here in Hawaii but the comfort wasn’t enough without the thermoforming interior, so knew I would need a better model. The fit with these 280’s was really good out of the box and is better after molding. I did swap out the footbeds and put in the CCM/Curex Medium ones as the stock ones had no support or cushion.

After now 3 weeks in them, I like the fit and now it’s just fine tuning the lacing, which everyone should do as all feet are different. But as a general rule I’m happy with these skates as they are definitely helping with my own skating. The blades are longer on these than the Eastons. I was surprised going to a smaller size skate. I can feel a speed difference and it’s a definite marked improvement. The additional 4mm of rise over the older holders seems to help a lot. I don’t know how much the difference is between these and the Easton runners is, but I am not making contact with the ice and making much harder and tighter turns.

All in all, I like these skates and would recommend them to anyone looking to get this level of skate and not wanting to pay for the current years equivalent model JetSpeed FT370 at $300 before shipping.

Aloha

Lightweight, comfortable, fast

i'm coming off 15 years in Graf skates and disappointment in my latest try with them... but I am VERY happy with these CCM skates! I can't say compared to others in the CCM line, but these skates feel extremely light compared to anything else i've ever had. after having them baked, they form to my feet nicely, and feel very comfortable. i really like CCM's holders... the added height does seem noticeable when making turns. seem to have good energy transfer as well.

really the only negative i can give these skates is mainly personal preference, but being used to Grafs that are very pitched forward, and then even having those profiled MORE forward, initially i felt like i was on a stair climber with these skates... they felt like i was falling backwards. after having a significant amount of toe steel taken off, they feel great, but i'm definitely going to be replacing the steel prematurely because of this. no worries, i will go with Step steel anyway... more steel to begin with, and adjusted a little more forward already.

overall, these skates are great. if you're playing in an adult beer league, unless you're that guy, i can't see much need to jump any higher in price to go with the 290s or higher. these do the trick!
