The Vapor 1X is the most designed, researched and tested skate in Bauer's 87 year history. The Vapor legacy continues as the most popular within Bauer's 3-fit platform. Its standard v-fit profile consists of a standard width through the toebox and forefoot with a low-volume, narrower fit in the heel and ankle. The 1X offers the lowest-volume fit overall when compared to its Supreme and Nexus counterparts. While the Vapor fit may not work for every foot type, those who do benefit from its fit characteristics often swear by its “second skin” fit and feel.
The OD1N concept skate provided the inspiration behind the updated X-Rib pattern. Performance lab tests showed improvements in heel and ankle lock, which resulted in quicker cross overs and tighter turns. This X-rib pattern adds structural support to the skate as well, and can be found throughout the Vapor line of skates. The 1X is built off Bauer’s 3D Lasted Composite upper, but we are introduced to a flashier version of an Aluminized Curv® Composite material. The fully composite upper has become standard issue for Bauer’s top of the line price point skates due to its unsurpassed strength, durability, support, and feel. The plastic ankle support that was used in the APX2 model has been substituted with a Curv® composite ankle support in the 1X, making it even better at heat molding and lighter overall. Since there are some significant spec differences between the stock APX2 and the stock 1X skates, we decided to provide you with more of an apples to apples weight comparison. We weighed one size 8 skate from each model without a footbed or without steel. Here were the results:
1X = 614 grams
APX2 = 660 grams
The Injected Stability Lacing System has also been revised. It has been hollowed out a little bit in order to provide better wrap over the foot, and it features a Lace Lock configuration on the 4th and 5th eyelets. The benefits of this innovative, one-piece construction maximizes energy return and provides explosive energy transfer with each stride and increases stability throughout the life of the boot.
The 1X offers many refined comforts, arguably making it the most comfortable Vapor skate to date. Featuring a 37.5™ liner, fabrics with this technology dry up to 5 times faster than similar fabrics without it. 37.5™ helps to regulate your core body temperature, keeping your foot drier for longer which enhances control and performance. The Form Fit Lite tongue is also different than the tongue used in the APX2. It uses a 52 oz. white felt through the center of the tongue with 40 oz. white felt on the sides plus it has an integrated Curv® composite insert for increased protection and support. Rounding out the comfort story is Bauer’s Total Edge Comfort padding, which helps to alleviate abrasions at the high ankle keeping you comfy when bearing down into those tight turns.
The boot sits atop an ultra-lightweight, vented, carbon composite outsole with the Tuuk Lightspeed Edge holder. This holder design provides an added three millimeters of height, in comparison to the Tuuk Lightspeed 2 holder thus allowing the skater to get lower to the ice for sharper, tighter turns without “bottoming out”, all while allowing runners to be changed out in seconds with the pull of a trigger. The holder is complemented by an elite grade stainless steel Tuuk LS4 EDGE runner, which adds another three millimeters in profile height. This further increases the angle of attack, expands on your profiling options, increases the longevity of the steel with considerably more sharpenings, not to mention the performance enhancements of energy transfer and strong edges offered by such premium steel.
With a considerable investment by Bauer in Sensor technology, came the study of balance and pressure distribution mapped as you skate. The center of pressure became the focus as Bauer created algorithms to figure out optimization. Bauer's SPEED PLATE™makes its debut in this Vapor 1X skate. It features a recovery alloy technology, which basically means that it can be heat molded repeatedly and will either form to a customized fit or to its original form. When this footbed is customized to your foot, it essentially marries the shape of your foot to the skate and puts the center of pressure more over the blade, which allows for better balance, control and performance.
With so many technological advancements and improvements, it is no wonder the Bauer is referring to the Vapor 1X skate as a Difference Maker! Check yours out today!

BAUER SPEED PLATE™ FITTING PROTOCOL
Bauer's SPEED PLATE™ features a recovery alloy technology, which basically means that it can be heat molded repeatedly and will either form to a customized fit or back to its original form. It can be heat molded in combination with the skate or separately. Bauer has made the following recommendations for fitting the SPEED PLATE™.
MOLDING SPEED PLATE™ AND SKATES TOGETHER
Had my 1X skates for two years before blocking a shot in one of my college practices and the eyelets braking. These skates lasted me a year of juniors and almost a full year of D1 club hockey at Rhode Island. it's a great skate and very comfortable and light. I'm currently waiting for my new ones in the mail.Review by Alex (Posted on 2/5/2017)
I used to own the Easton Mako II, which is decent, but not as light nor as hard as the Bauer 1X. Being lighter and harder means that you can skate faster and harder without any delay.Review by Anson (Posted on 1/16/2017)
As a Mako II owner, I honestly prefer the 1X's profile as it is very balanced , you can control your weight distribution very well on these skates, and when you put your weight forward, the power that you're able to put on the ice is simply explosive!
On top of that, these skates provides excellent feedback! You can literally feel every single tiny bump on the ice while skating.
It also feels taller ,and it does take sometime to get used to. But once you're used to that, you can lean at a greater angle with more stability.
I preordered a pair before they came out; and i'm really satisfied with energy transfer, i'm an agile player and being able to be first in the corner is great, tight turns are sharp and everything... BUT i must say, they are soooooo fragile !!! The foil has completely peeled off the inside of my left sakte, and water has started to go in.Review by fallus (Posted on 11/23/2016)
I dry them after everygame and i'm very cautious about my gear and like it to be durable, which those skates are NOT.
Next i'm going with supreme and hope they do hold longer than one year of 4 to 6 times a week hockey season because i'm not rich but i skate hard and can't afford to pay a new pair everyyear... form now i'm stiking with the water in te boot.
there nice good feeling.Review by Gianni Ferraro (Posted on 7/24/2016)
I got these last week and have already skated in them two times. Stepping into these from Nexus 1000s, and the agility feel you get from the 1X is staggering! Aside from the fact that they are probably the nicest-looking skates ever produced, the performance feel was unparalleled to any other. Not much break in time required. They were super comfortable right off the bat, and the 5th & 6th lace-locking eyelets (like on the MX3) work really well when lacing up.Review by Jules the Righteous Man (Posted on 7/24/2016)
I was doubtful about the Speed Plate prior to trying them but I did notice the change in its shape after the moulding, and it wasn't too bad after the first game. But should these blue special insoles raise the MSRP by fifty bucks? not really, they are simply pieces of plastic with felt...
The LS4 blade seems to have a much better turning radius than LS3 I had installed on my Nexus- and good move from Bauer to ditch LSfusion. Very solid skate, I personally believe the Vapor line is built better & with more solid material than the Supreme MX3s, and it is nice to know that the 1X is mainly composed of their Curv composite compared to the previous APX2 which was mostly a plastic core.
In the end they are an exemplary top-of-the-line hockey skate. You really get your money's worth, despite how bad they can hurt the wallet. Regardless, there is no going wrong with the 1X, Bauer seems to be continually stepping up their dominance in the hockey equipment game.
Great skates. Love the feel and energy transfer.Review by Johnny (Posted on 7/24/2016)
I have worn these skates three times and each time I love them more and more. I can't get over how light they are for skates and how explosive they feel when skating in them. I had the original APX skate and never thought I'd find a skate that performed as well as they did. I find I do get better energy transfer from these skates. I did bake the skates as required, and they felt a little uncomfortable at first, but I go a size smaller than what my suggested size should be, so I expected that.Review by Hansen (Posted on 7/24/2016)
Had them 7 DAYS, used for only 3 HOURS ice hockey practice, and already the 'foil like' black material is literally peeling off! It chips away with the slightest tough of a hockey stick or skate! Along with color fading and plastics bending/folding! Extremely disappointed being a Bauer Vapor user for many years, feeling absolutely robbed of my money and completely let down! Very bad product!Review by Rob-bed (Posted on 7/24/2016)
This is a great skate, that I was super excited to purchase, although when I received them I noticed that the size 9EE, while wider is also longer by at least a half size. I also noticed that the provided size 9 speed plate also does not fit properly in the boot due to the longer size.Review by Disappointed (Posted on 7/24/2016)
This is a huge problem, and is forcing me to return for a smaller size, the problem still remains that the speed plate still will not fit and you cannot purchase these separately.
I have been a loyal Bauer customer for years, I expect more out of them.
I bought these when they first came out expecting to be shocked by how great they were going to be, which I was, but they wore down way too quickly. It has only been 8 months and the tendon guard ripped almost completely all the way around(Bauer is replacing them for this thankfully), the blades move around and pop out easily, and the outside foil like material is falling off all over the boot.Review by Nick (Posted on 7/24/2016)
This skate has it all durability, comfort, lightweight and best of all it is in a league of its own. Don't list n to the negative reviews they are all wrong!Review by Gerti (Posted on 7/24/2016)
My son has a intermediate pair as well.
I started hockey quite late (22) and I started working in a pro shop about 3 years ago, before which I didn't have much knowledge on gear.Review by Reynexxx (Posted on 7/24/2016)
During my training I was told stuff like "Vapors aren't good for wide footed people" and stuff like that, for that reason I've not purchased a pair of Vapors even though I've tried about 5 pairs of high end skates since working here.
When the 1X was due to drop I brought in a pair in my size as well as a pair of MX3's, as I was under the impression that they might suit my wide foot better *brought both skates in EE*). But the Vapor was a far better fit for me, the bumps and grooves in the Supreme skate just didn't seem to match up with my foot. I've been using the 1X since and though the break in process was probably the worst I've had to endure (some nasty pains across the foot and abrasions where the "comfort edge" patch is) it's now fitting perfectly and I don't have any issues with discomfort or pain.
I can't say enough about the Speed Plates, they are the absolute ducks nuts. I have been wearing superfeet in my skates pretty much since I started and these things are just magic, they'll make even the highest and craziest of arches feel like you have full contact with the sole of the boot.
And now they've fixed the LS4 issue it's all good times.
I urge anyone who has avoided Vapor skates due to a wide foot to at least give these a try on the next time you need some new wheels. I think you might be surprised.
ALSO TAKE NOTE that EE width skates seem to be longer than the D width in the same size. I have almost always worn a size 7EE across the board but am now wearing a 6.5EE in the 1X. This may be a preexisting issue but some may not be aware yet so worth mentioning.
