Created for the competitive player that is looking for similar technology that can be found in the higher end RBZ skates, the CCM RBZ 80 delivers, with features that enhance durability too.
As a series, the RBZ skate line addresses the need for speed, and was designed to maximize explosiveness and reaction speed. It has a generous anatomical fit profile with a standard heel and a deep heel contour to give you a nice heel lock. Since it does have such a deep heel contour, instead of the typical "1.5 sizes smaller than shoe size" rule of thumb, CCM recommends 2 sizes smaller than shoe size as a starting point when getting fitted for these skates. It is ultimately, however, a matter of personal preference.
The outer shell of the RBZ 80 uses what CCM calls Vectorwear surlyn. Surlyn is the same material that is used for the outer shell of golf balls, which is why you should feel confident about the durability of this skate with regards to wear from abrasion and cuts. The core is made of EPP foam, which contributes to the relative lightweight of this skate. When you also consider the relatively stiff inner layer, it creates a sandwich-like construction that offers a great amount of lateral support. Since this configuration is also very receptive to heat molding, break in time will be reduced. The boot cut has been brought in a little to provide a deeper flexion zone and reduced boot fatigue. Heel lock from the deep heel counter is further enhanced through the use of 6mm EVA foam, which is both comfortable and accommodating.
The tongue is made of a combination of moderately dense 7mm felt and foam with Added Lace Bite Protection. The RBZ 80 has the ventilated composite exhaust outsole which serves as a sturdy platform for mounting the SpeedBlade + 4.0 holder. This holder offers an additional 4.0mm height which provides a significantly deeper angle of attack for tighter turns. Tighter turns means potentially winning more races to the puck! SpeedRibs near the top of the holder help to increase torsional rigidity. The RBZ 80 comes with the SpeedBlade Stainless Steel runner.
Comfort, durability and a performance enhancing holder design, all wrapped into a skate model that was designed to enhance the foot speed of the competitive player - these are the RBZ 80 skates from CCM. These are certainly worth a look.
